Areas of Practice:Civil Law and Family Law Barrister
A family and civil practitioner who undertakes work in public and private law children cases, ancillary relief and other family matters with a civil practice including personal injury, landlord and tenant and contract cases.
Helen studied politics, philosophy and economics at the University of Oxford before she completed the law conversion course at the University of Exeter. She was awarded a Lord Justice Holker Award by Gray’s Inn for the BVC year and joined Walnut House in October 2005 having completed a 12 month pupillage in chambers.
Helen is a member of both the Family Law and the Personal Injury Bar Associations.
She accepts instructions in all areas of Family Law and she undertakes work in both public and private law cases as well as in ancillary relief matters and injunction proceedings. On a regular basis she appears in the Family Proceedings Court, County Court and High Court.
Public Law - Children
Helen regularly undertakes work on behalf of Local Authorities in the south west as well as acting for parents and she has also been instructed on behalf of guardians. Helen has represented parties in applications for Care, Supervision, and Placement Orders, as well as in contested applications for section 38(6) orders.
Private Law - Children
She accepts instructions on behalf of both privately and publicly funded parties in all types of Children Act applications, including applications for Special Guardianship Orders.
Private Law - Ancillary Relief
Helen acts on behalf of both privately and publicly funded parties in all types of applications for ancillary relief and regularly appear for parties at First Directions Appointments, Financial Dispute Resolution Hearings and at Final Hearings.
Civil Law
Personal Injury
Helen accept instructions in all areas of personal injury and has undertaken work on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants in both fast-track and multi-track cases. She accepts instructions in cases funded by Conditional Fee Agreements.
Landlord and Tenant
She has been instructed to appear for both landlords and tenants in a variety of housing matters, including cases in which possession is sought on grounds of anti-social behaviour.
Contract
Helen accept instructions in all areas of contract law.
Public Access
Helen is accredited to accept instructions on a Public Access Basis
