Areas of Practice:Civil and Criminal Law Barrister
An approachable Common Law barrister with a wide ranging practice.
Born and brought up in Ireland, Barry has lived in the West Country since 1997. He was called to the Bar in 2004 and has been a member of chambers since 2005.
Personal Injury, Credit Hire and Inquests
Barry is an experienced PI practitioner with experience across the field, including road traffic litigation (including low-velocity claims and claims raising issues of fraud), highways cases, accidents at work, tripping and slipping, occupier's liability and holiday litigation.
Barry acts for both Claimants and Defendants and will undertake work under CFA's where appropriate.
Barry also has extensive experience of dealing with credit hire claims both as a head of damage within PI cases and as stand-alone litigation.
As a complement to his PI work, Barry has represented a number of interested parties at inquests following fatal accidents and understands the importance of soft-skills in these sensitive and upsetting hearings.
Barry has substantial experience of costs work and is happy to follow his own cases through to their conclusion, or undertake costs work on a stand-alone basis. As well as detailed assessments, he has been instructed to act in a number of costs management hearings.
Landlord & Tenant and Property
Barry has a wealth of experience in residential landlord & tenant cases, acting for tenants, local authorities, registered providers and private landlords. He has experience of the full range of work including possession claims (including public law defence), demotions, anti-social behaviour, unlawful evictions and disrepair.
In addition, Barry undertakes advisory and court work in boundary disputes, easements and covenants, adverse possession, charges, trespass and nuisance.
Barry practises in all areas of employment law including unfair & wrongful dismissal, redundancies, TUPE transfers, unlawful deduction of wages and discrimination.
He acts for claimants and respondents and is happy to provide advice at short notice.
Criminal & Regulatory Matters
Barry retains a niche practice prosecuting regulatory crime. He also has substantial experience defending in the Crown Court and at Courts Martial.
Barry has also retained a niche practice in defending road traffic cases. He understands the stress which the prospect of losing ones licence can induce in otherwise perfectly law abiding people and, as such, treats these cases with the seriousness which they deserve.
