Walnut House Chambers

About Us

Walnut House Barristers Chambers were established in 1972 at premises in Southernhay West and moved across the City of Exeter to Walnut House in 1992 to provide better accommodation for barristers and clients alike.

Our Chambers in Exeter has steadily grown over recent years and we have improved our strength in depth in all our practice areas including Civil Law, Criminal Law and Family Law.

We have always taken a robust and exacting approach to recruitment allowing us to strengthen our specialist teams with care and to provide better resources without diminishing our reputation for the quality of the service that we provide.

Over the years, many tenants from Walnut House have been appointed Recorders with a comparatively large number of members going on to take up full-time judicial appointments.

Presently, we have three members of Chambers that sit as Recorders and two as Deputy District Judges.

Former members of Chambers who accepted judicial appointments include Mr. Justice Butterfield, H.H.J. Cottle, H.H.J. Neligan, H.H.J. Gilbert QC, H.H.J. Robertshaw, H.H.J. Edmunds QC, H.H.J. Munro QC, H.H.J Mercer QC and the late H.H.J. Neville and H.H.J. Chubb.
